The MemphisWake.com crew traveled to the Elizabethtown, KY PWT stop. As always we held it down for MW and took as many photos of the event as we could for the enjoyment of our viewers that missed out.
We rolled into Elizabethtown late Friday night and kicked it in the MW room for the rest of the evening. After a late night, we woke up, ate some breakfast, and headed to the contest. Toby with the Mastercraft crew hooked us up with VIP parking and we posted up at the Hyperlite tent for most of the day. While enjoying a few beverages and watching the quarter finals, we talked with many legends in the industry including Randall Harris, Greg Nelson, Shaun Murray, JD Webb, and others. After the contest we headed to the Hyperlite video premier of “REWRITTEN”. If you haven’t seen this video yet, it is a must see. From the intro to the innovative rail riding of JD Webb the video will keep you entertained from start to finish.
After the premier we hopped on the Fox bus and made the 45 minute hike to Louisville. Dano ,the PWT announcer, was entertainment for the entire ride with his mad dance moves and his impressive/hilarious megaphone karaoke of “AllNight Long” by Lionel Richie (this may have been the best part of the trip). The night scene in Louisville was off the hook, the strip was packed, and “The Monkey Wrench” hooked us up with drinks, music, and fun “all night long”. At almost 4am we took a limo back to Elizabethtown (thats another story on its own) and crashed out.
The semi-finals and finals were jam packed with some of the best tournament runs the PWT has seen. Harley Clifford had a stand up run in both rounds consisting of w2w bs 7s, ts 9s, and hs 7s. However, he couldn’t hold off Phillip Soven with his flawless run: Batwing to fakie, CrowMobe5, KGB, hs bs 7, ts 9, switch hs 7, moby dick 5, and a pete rose.
Aaron Rathy had the attention of everyone at the contest, despite his one fall, when he threw for a HS 1080 off the double-up in an attempt to squeeze past Soven and make history in the process. However, he was unsuccessful and took a 3rd place finish.
After some great riding, the Soven brothers took 1st in both the Pro and Jr. Mens divisions.
Freeman Lake proved to be a perfect place for the stop. The level of riding was insane all weekend, thanks to the buttery lake conditions. MW looks forward to this stop again next year. Dont miss out again!
And oh yea I think I should mention that Rusty Malinoski landed 7 1080s last week and 2 yesterday. Perhaps we will see one in his run very soon.
